Dr. Christopher Vye specializes in working with adults with anxiety problems including
panic disorder, social anxiety, OCD, phobias, health anxiety, and generalized
anxiety disorder. He has extensive experience in the assessment and psychological
treatment of anxiety disorders. He co-founded Anxiety Treatment Resources in 1999,
with Dr. Mary Cady, after working in general mental health practice and in other
specialty clinics for treating anxiety. In addition to providing therapy services
at ATR, he lectures frequently on anxiety disorders and their treatment, and provides
consultation to other psychologists. Dr. Vye is an Associate Professor at the
University of Saint Thomas where he serves as Director of Training in the Graduate
School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Vye received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
from the University of Minnesota in 1990. Given his primary involvement with the
University of Saint Thomas, he has limited availability for new clients at this
time.
Dr. Vye employs cognitive-behavioral therapy that is consistent with treatment
protocols supported by research. This frequently involves gradual exposure strategies
that help empower clients to face and overcome their fears. In addition, much
attention is paid to how clients cognitively appraise feared situations. Clients
are engaged in a collaborative fashion to examine situational, cognitive, and
behavioral dimensions of their anxiety. Prior experiences and relationships may
also be explored in relation to the presenting problems. A positive therapeutic
alliance and relationship is seen as vital for effective therapy. While the overall
framework of treatment is cognitive-behavioral, treatment is individualized and,
depending upon the client's concerns, may involve a number of other approaches. |
