Dr. Rebecca Swan, Ph.D.

Dr. Rebecca Swan has over 20 years experience in clinical services to adolescents and adults with anxiety conditions, as well as other psychological difficulties. Her primary interests and expertise are in the areas of anxiety and anxiety disorders, specifically obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsessional thoughts, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, health anxiety, and specific phobias. Dr. Swan has expertise in the provision of empirically supported treatments for anxiety disorders and other conditions, primarily cognitive behavioral interventions, but works with the patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that may incorporate a number of clinical methods and approaches. For instance, she frequently incorporates Acceptance & Commitment Therapy strategies, as well as mindfulness-informed methods in the client’s treatment plan. In selected cases she will provide services to children or consultation to parents regarding their child’s condition.

Dr. Swan received her doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1990 and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Chicago and LaRabida Children’s Hospital. Initially trained as a pediatric psychologist, she has extensive experience with children, adolescents, and adults in both primary care and clinic/hospital settings. Her background includes work with clients with a diverse range of issues, including depression, anxiety, and attentional problems (ADD).

Dr. Swan also provides specialized training to psychology practicum students, psychiatric residents, and other professionals regarding the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders. She speaks frequently about anxiety disorders and other topics to schools and community organizations. Dr. Swan has taught graduate level courses in psychological assessment and child assessment and therapy.
